International Baccalaureate (IB)

Welcome to Katedralskolan and the IB programme - Upper secondary education the world recognizes. We offer a broad education where you can choose between a Diploma which is focused towards Languages (språklig inriktning), Science (naturvetenskaplig inriktning), Social Science (samhällsvetenskaplig inriktning) or includes studies in Film.

Our Mission Statement

Tradition and development is the motto of Katedralskolan. As Linköping´s oldest gymnasium, founded in 1627, we take pride in our history while at the same time offering a modern education.

The school has had a long well-developed contact network which supports our continually evolving international profile. Ongoing international student exchange programs complement this profile along with sound language teaching and strong cross-curricular links to our language departments.

Our goal is education with a humanistic perspective which places the individual in focus. Students are met with openness and tolerance in an environment which fosters creativity, initiative and responsibility.

We strive to develop our students´ intercultural awareness and to equip them with the academic and empathic tools they require to work and live in our globalised world.

Together, we work to provide you with the best possible foundations for your future.

Your time here at Katedralskolan

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised and highly regarded, two-year upper secondary education programme. It provides excellent preparation for university studies in Sweden and abroad, making you attractive on the job market at a time when the demand for international competence is growing.

Year 1 - One preparatory year

At Katedralskolan, just like at many other schools in Sweden, the programme is preceded by a preparatory year. In the first year, you will take courses to prepare you for the Diploma Programme. Some of the courses follow the normal Swedish upper secondary school syllabus. The teaching materials and instruction in English will prepare you for the two IB years that follow.
