Linköping’s libraries

The main library is centrally located near the cathedral. The premises invite relaxation and there are a number of study spaces. The building also houses Stiftsbiblioteket, the unique Diocesan library which contains almost a quarter of a million handwritten documents and books from the Middle Ages and later.

The Cabinet of Curiosities, located in the basement, is a collection of art objects donated to the library during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Linköping City Library (Stadsbiblioteket) consists of a main library, nine local libraries and a mobile library. Our website has more information and lists the different libraries’ opening times.

Become a library borrower!

With a library card you can borrow books, magazines, music and films at all our libraries. The Ny i Sverige (New in Sweden) department has easy-reading books and textbooks for Swedish studies. We also have books in many different languages, for children as well as adults.

You can search for, reserve and renew media loans on our website. You’ll also find e-books there. Borrowing is free of charge, but remember that you are responsible for everything you borrow!

What else do the libraries have?

All libraries that are part of Linköping City Library have free wifi and desktop computers you can book for an hour at a time. Some libraries have drop-in computers that you can use for shorter periods of time. You can also copy, print and scan documents in the libraries. The main library has study spaces, conference rooms that can be booked and a café that serves light lunches as well.

What’s going on in the libraries? We have many activities for children and adults in our libraries. In the main library we have singing and storytelling sessions for you and your child, in many different languages. Some of our libraries arrange språkcaféer, ‘language cafés’ where you can practise your Swedish.
